The Austraslian Comics Data Base
The
Australian Comics Database is a brilliant initiative that collects comics
published in Australia from the 1970s onwards to help fill the gaps in the
wonderful history of Australian comics. The timeframe is apparently not to
conflict with the ausreprints.net.au website, which does a fantastic job of
cataloging earlier Australian comics, mainly 1940s to 1980s. Maintained by Gary
Chaloner and Daniel Best, they have created a library that builds every week
and strives to become one of the most comprehensive databases available.
One problem I always found with Australian comic history and many articles was that the authors tended to be very provincial and ignore large swathes of other areas that were happening before, after, and many times concurrently. This amazing site helps combat these discrepancies by supplying future researchers with a massive pool of comics and the era they were published, including creators and genre. A wonderful resource.
